Alberton Primary School Marine Discovery

At Alberton Primary School our initial vision for the Marine Trail is to develop an indoor and an outdoor learnscape (classroom) at our school with connections to an 'Our Patch' at a nearby sea/river location (to be determined).

Features of the outdoor classroom will include a sheltered amphitheatre (performance space) and sand dune, depicting the dunes, jetty and the sea. Signage will include interpretive boards made by students (pictorial and written information reports). This will provide an area for sand dune revegetation and stabilisation, vegetation identification, plants used by Aboriginal people for bush tucker, medicine and technology near the sea, local Dreaming Story telling, and used as a backdrop for other information sessions.

Features of the indoor classroom will include a range of aquariums, artificial jetty environment and mangrove habitat, tactile table, data logging computer and website access, multi-media and marine education movie viewing produced by the Alberton Film Co., diverse resource collection and eventually a tidal tank.

More coming soon...
