The jolly pocket postman

Author Allan Ahlberg

Illustrator Janet Ahlberg

In this book the picture flows around text to show all of the things that the postman does. The pictures also move in stages to show movement of the postman as he gets hit on the head. Throughout the whole book the pictures are very jumbled in order to show the chaos that is in life of the postman. Inside the book there are also pockets with small pieces of card that show individual stories.

This book would be perfect for a year 3/4 class because it has short stories in the middle of the book which keeps interest with the reader.

 2
Billy the Punk

Author Jessica Carroll

Illustrator Craig Smith

In this book it shows whole pictures to show big events and it shows smaller pictures to show a series of events.  It also alternates the words from top to bottom of the page, maybe to keep the reader looking at the pictures as their eyes scan from page to page. The Illustrator also uses very similar looking people to keep a familiarity throughout the book.

This is a very good story and it shows about how billy fits in. It was one of my favourites as a child and is perfect for a year 1/2 class.

 3
The Paper Bag Princess

Author Robert N  Munsch

Illustrator Michael Martchenko

Through out the whole all of the pictures are on the left hand side and all of the writing is on the right hand side. The illustrator uses pictures to show emotion in the form of love hearts flying around a characters head. The pictures are very colorful when the character is happy but they are dark and drab when the characters are unhappy.

Thomas’s amazing pop up train set book

This is one of the most amazingly illustrated books I have ever come across. The pictures are what tell the reader where to go. The pop up creates a station with Thomas inside and the reader takes Thomas out and drives him along the tracks. The story is written along these tracks. At the end of the book there is a turntable so that the reader can turn Thomas around and drive him back on the other side. The rest of the story is written upside down so the when the reader turns the book around to drive Thomas home they are up the correct way.

Prince Lachlan

Author Nette Hilton

Illustrator Ann James

In this book the illustrator has made the picture flow around the writing. The pictures are very colorful and there are white patches for the writing. This effect surrounds the text as though keeping it in the story. The pictures are also very cluttered and they show that there is a lot in the life of Prince Lachlan.

Schnitzel Von Krumm, Dogs Never Climb Trees

Author Lynley Dodd

Illustrator Lynley Dodd

In this book all of the pictures are on the left hand side and all of the pictures are on the right hand side. This keeps a familiar theme throughout the whole book. On the last few pages the writing is very simple with one or two words each page. This shows the simple emotions that were being felt by the characters.

Possum Magic

Author Mem Fox

Illustrator Julie Vivas

This is a very interesting book because it uses such a variety of illustration types. All of the animals with fur are not drawn with a straight line as an outline. They are drawn by lost of small lines perpendicular to the direction of line. The position and size of the pictures vary throughout the book. At the beginning of the book the text is separated from the pictures but as the book continues the pictures surround the words more. There are also some whole page pictures with the text on the opposite page.

1 is for one

Author Nadia Wheatly

Illustrator Helen Leitch

From the title of the book you know that it is a counting book but like most counting books it used simple rhymes that at first seem stupid and mainstream but these rhymes are what help small children learn to count. The pat of the book that re gained my interest is when you get to the back cover there is a sleeve and in this sleeve is a smaller version of the book you just read and in the back of this book is the same thing. It really is good for children because they continually need change to keep there minds occupied

Shoes from Grandpa

Author Mem Fox

Illustrator Patricia Mullins

This book has one of the most amazing drawing styles incorporated within it. The pictures rather than being drawn or painted are made by tearing pieces of paper and sticking them to a background. This makes for very interesting textures that show imperfections and makes it believe that the story is about a real person or people rather than completely made up.
