Nuclear Reactors use radiocative substances to produce heat energy that can be changed to electricla energy.
The cloud that is comming out of the cooling tower is not radioactive, it is water vapour. The most common nuclear reactor is the pressurized-water reaxctor. It exchanges heat to produce steam of high pressure that is carried, by pipe, to a turbine. When the steam hits the turbine, it causes it to rotate. The turbine is connected to the alternator which produces electricity. THe steam is then condensed and returned to the steam generator. Last Modified 4/15/05 1:51 PM |
