Korea trip

This is a photo story of my recent trip to Korea. Inside are images of Korea, other posters and views by teachers who are searching for new ways to be innovative. These views came after they had sessions with various industries, like Starbucks (on coffee making), Levi Straus (on developing an innovative industry).

Have a look let me know what you think.

Kevin & I planned to visit Tandanya on the 17th Nov with the view to consider connections with the VoL central study. Indigneous ways of knowing are a particular interest for me and a chance to look closely at the representations of local and scoial environment thorugh art especially so. Unfortunately the gallery was shut for dismantelling an exhibition and assembling the new show! SO I missed out on Tandanya, and went to teh museum instead. No where near as exciting but none the less still of interest. The interactive materials hold a wealth of information and potential to support student inquiry is worth considering.

Judy's comments regarding organising PD with FU are worth noting and sharing with our colleagues at FU.

A couple of things were discussed prior to the day which included: Peter visiting and talking with Joe Shapter to decide on the most relevant of pracs for the PD session; agreement that the pracs would be arranged so ASMS staff could undertake them during the Tues afternoon session with the aim of trailling pracs for possible student use in 2006; post grad students to be available to work alongside ASMS staff to support them in undertaking the pracs and working in the FU lab.

I am not sure from the comments how valuable the session was in the end, what did people find? any further comments? It would seem we needed to be a little more precise in our aims for the session and this should be a lesson to take to future arrangements we make with FU for PD of any kind.

I am aware that Kathy Schuller is planning to review the ASMS/FU Core Teams role and I consider this is worth sharing as part of this review. Peter & I are members of this group however it has not met for quite sometime unfortunately.

It may be worth me contacting Joe and checking on the FU feelings about the PD session as well. I'll let you know how I go.

cheers

When organising PD with the university we need to be much more explicit about our needs. If I organised something like this again, it would be directly with the demonstrators rather than through others.

As teachers (not undergraduate students studying a specific course) we need a lot more preliminary information given to us at the beginning; to set the scene. We would either do all the pracs together or the pracs would need to be written with lots more detail.

We could do the pracs with the demonstrator next to us, showing us where to get the chemicals from, suggesting equipment to speed up the processes and showing us how to use the software programs. Unfortunately some groups could not get started for quite some time because they needed individual help.
